Assynt
SHOPS AND CAFES
Achmelvich is approximately 3½ miles from Lochinver. Lochinver is a small fishing village. Shops include a Spar, butchers, newsagents, hardware and gift shops. There are several cafes and restaurants but opening times are varied and it is advisable to check times and whether you need to book before arranging to go out to eat.
Outside the summer season some shops and eateries reduce their opening hours and some close for the winter.
The nearest supermarket is a Tesco in Ullapool.
The Jammery Culkein is run by a local couple who specialise in their own delicious jams and chutneys as well as crafts. They also serve teas, coffees, filled rolls and home baking, all made on the premises.
Tidal Gifts is located just a few metres from The Croft Cabin and serves teas coffees and snacks as well as Achmelvich themed gifts
Highland Stoneware is a well-known and long established pottery. The potters can be observed at work, and items can be purchased in the on site shop.
Made In Assynt is a cooperative of local craft businesses. Craft fairs are held in Lochinver Village Hall every fortnight featuring crafts and food produce from Assynt and the surrounding areas.
Rockpool is situated on Lochinver’s main street selling a wide selection of jewellery and other gifts.
SHORE FISH AND CHIPS
Achmelvich Beach
What better dinner option is there than fish and chips by the beach? The Shore fish and chip shop is run by Bev, who has been frying fish here for 10years now!
She prepares meals freshly, using a wide range of locally sourced items such as haggis and black pudding from S. Greenlees and Son Butchers in Lochinver.
The fish used comes fresh from Ullapool. Bev is also keen to protect our beautiful beaches, with this in mind she uses compostable packaging, where possible.
In addition she has a wide range of meal options to suit dietary needs such as Gluten Free batter.

There are many walks in and around Assynt, suitable for all levels of fitness. Details of many of them can be found at Walk Highland.
There is an all abilities walk at Little Assynt, a few miles foutside Lochinver.
